I'm from Scandinavia and find myself horrified every time the US experiences another mass shooting – and yet, I realise now that I too am somehow reacting less and less. I cannot imagine the pain, fear, and frustration so many of you live with daily, but your writing is so full of rawness and empathy that it feels just a bit more real, even to me. I am so sorry for your nation and for all those of you fighting for a change that can seem impossible.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings on this. Your words resonated so much. Ever since Columbine I think our particular generation has lived day to day with this dread, this fear. It never leaves us. And it’s not some “foreign enemy” either which older generations will point to - but rather we know our enemy, we see them every day, and yet our country refuses to do anything to counteract the domestic terrorists taking over our schools, hospitals, movie theaters, grocery stores, and even ice skating rinks. I appreciate your rage and your candor and for making yourself vulnerable enough to share. Thank you.
I wish things would change. You beautifully articulated what this fear feels like to most of us and how absolutely, tragically justified it is. We aren’t scared for no reason. We’re scared because it’s scary living in this country.
Thank you Olivia. You put this all so beautifully. It is such an awful, ever-present fear. And sometimes I don’t know how to feel anything but powerless about it all. 💔
Oh my gosh ❤️🩹 I’m so sorry you have to deal with this fear. Sending so much love your way and to everyone else in the US trying to live your lives with this threat hanging over you

Olivia, your words are magic. Thank you for sharing your heart. As a teacher, so many of these thoughts are spot on!!

Thank you for sharing this. I too feel that way about the movies now, and i thought i might be the only one who feels that panic and anxiety.
