Month In The Life: January 2024
Getting back to a routine, missing goals, and flossing. Lots of flossing.

Hi there! And welcome to the very first installment of what I’m calling “Month In The Life.” This, of course, is the written component of the series. Consider it your visual guide for all the things I talk about in the podcast version. Here you’ll find photos, links, and recommendations that are easy to refer back to. In the podcast version, you’ll get my off-the-cuff commentary on all of it, plus the always convenient opportunity to multi-task. Listen in your car, while you’re flossing (this will make more sense if you listen) — whenever! I’ve tried to make sure there are differences between the written posts and the audio content, so if you happen to listen and read, it shouldn’t feel exactly like you’re just hearing the same thing repeated (though, of course, the core of the content is the same).
This monthly series was partly inspired by my recent fascination with #DayInTheLife content on Instagram (and TikTok, of course, but I am trying to limit my time there right now). I especially love the content that’s as boring as it gets. Retainers. Flossing. Grocery shopping on a budget. It’s simple, relaxing, and highlights the tiniest things that make up so much of our days, while inspiring me at the same time to romanticize it all. And, as you know, I’m always down for that. So that’s what I wanted these posts and podcasts to be like. I wanted to break down the tiniest details of my month, the highs and lows, what worked and what didn’t.
While this format might change over time, I really want to prioritize more consistency in my paid subscriber content this year, so here’s the plan for right now: I’ll start by going over the ins and outs of my month. I figured the easiest, most consistent way to go about this was to talk about my monthly goals sheets. I’ll go through each goal and talk about how I did. I’ll discuss what helped me succeed and what didn’t. I’ll explain what I think needs to change next month, or what should stay the same. If this sounds very self-help-y, don’t worry. This is less me talking about how to achieve your hopes and dreams and more me talking about the ebbs and flows of my days and weeks, specifically when it comes to habits and routine. It’s light and easy and comes less from a place of self-discipline than it does a place of self-kindness.
After that, I’ll discuss my favorite book of the month, best TV show, best meal, best purchase, and favorite home renovation project, all with links and photos where relevant. Hopefully, this is where the written post will come in handy if you listen to the podcast. I mean, what home project or outfit is as fun to hear about as it is to look at, after all? I’ll also include extra tidbits here and there for fun that aren’t mentioned in the podcast. Here’s one: As I type this, the tile for our guest bathroom reno arrived (!!!) at our front door. I’ll include a preview of that in the home renovation section below.
