This week we’re talking about goals. Or, well, getting rid of goals — sort of. If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I’m all about a goal whiteboard, a goal bubble system, yearly goals, monthly goals, weekly goals, daily goals… all of it, all the time. I’ve been checking off lists trying to get to the life I want for, well, most of my life. But was it the life that felt the best? Or the life that looked the best? Sometimes, it was the former. More often, I think it was the latter.
So for this week’s free essay (and in this week’s mini podcast), I’m talking about what it has looked like for me to redefine how I approach goals, how I have begun to reshape how I feel about them. After I wrote the essay and recorded the mini podcast yesterday, I kept thinking about if all of this just sounds silly — crunchy and naive. Of course we need solid goals! Of course we should all be motivated by the high of praise, or accolades, or fancy titles! That’s how life works. And maybe that…
